The Physician Assistant is responsible for assisting doctors in patient care, coordinating clinical activities, and acting as a Patient Service Officer. The role ensures smooth patient flow, accurate documentation, and effective communication between patients, doctors, and departments. The Physician Assistant supports both clinical and administrative functions to maintain high-quality patient care and service.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Doctor Assistance
Prepare OPD/IPD rooms before consultation.
Assist the doctor during patient examination.
Record patient history, vital signs, and chief complaints.
Ensure all reports, lab results, and previous records are ready for doctor review.
Facilitate procedures such as dressing, injections, and minor treatments (if trained).
Support doctors in emergency cases by coordinating with nursing and other departments.
B. Patient Service & Coordination
Welcome patients and guide them through the consultation process.
Explain doctor instructions, medication usage, follow-up dates, and procedures clearly.
Answer patient queries politely and professionally.
Coordinate with reception, pharmacy, lab, X-ray, and billing for smooth service.
Assist in patient movement (OPD to lab/pharmacy/wards) if required.
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
C. Documentation & Records
Enter consultation notes, vital signs, and updates in the EMR/software.
Maintain daily patient records, case sheets, and procedure logs.
Ensure proper filing of reports and discharge summaries (under doctor guidance).
Update follow-up lists and track patient outcomes when required.
D. Administrative & Support Roles
Ensure OPD consultation rooms, equipment, and instruments are clean and ready.
Monitor availability of consumables and coordinate stock replenishment.
Assist in scheduling appointments and managing patient flow to avoid crowding.
Support quality audits, patient feedback collection, and service improvement initiatives.
E. Communication & Teamwork
Act as a bridge between doctor, nursing team, and patients.
Communicate critical updates quickly and accurately.
Maintain good interpersonal relationships with all departments.
Attend clinical meetings, training programs, and skill-development sessions.
3. Skills & Qualifications
Degree/Diploma in Physician Assistant / B.Sc. Physician Assistant / Life Sciences.
Hands-on experience in clinical assistance preferred.
Good communication skills in Tamil & English.
Basic knowledge of medical terms, vitals, and OPD workflows.
Ability to handle patients politely with empathy and patience.
Computer skills (EMR, MS Office) preferred.
