Draw blood samples using appropriate techniques (venipuncture, finger prick, heel stick for infants).
Collect other specimens like urine, sputum, stool, and swabs as required.
Ensure proper patient identification and labeling of all samples.
Patient Interaction:
Explain procedures to patients in a calm and professional manner.
Make patients feel comfortable and reduce anxiety, especially in children and elderly.
Follow all infection control and safety protocols during sample collection.
Specimen Handling & Processing:
Ensure timely and accurate transport of specimens to the laboratory.
Maintain sample integrity and prevent contamination or deterioration.
Record specimen collection details in the lab system or manual registers.
Inventory & Equipment Management:
Maintain adequate stock of collection supplies (tubes, needles, swabs, etc.).
Ensure phlebotomy equipment is clean, functional, and calibrated as per SOPs.
Report any shortages or equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.
Documentation & Compliance:
Update patient information and sample collection details in the Lab Information System (LIS).
Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), NABL/NABH guidelines, and hospital protocols.
Participate in internal audits and quality assurance activities as needed.
