The Home Phlebotomist is responsible for traveling to patients' homes or designated locations to collect blood samples safely, efficiently, and professionally. This role requires strong technical skills, excellent patient communication, and strict adherence to laboratory and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Travel to patients' homes, or other off-site locations to perform blood draws and specimen collection.
Verify patient identity and ensure accurate labeling of all specimens.
Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures following established safety and infection-control procedures.
Prepare and process specimens for transport to laboratories, ensuring proper handling, packaging, and documentation.
Maintain accurate records of collection procedures, patient interactions, and specimen logs.
Provide compassionate care, especially to elderly, pediatric, and homebound patients.
Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensuring a clean and organized work area.
Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, nurses, and laboratory staff.
Follow guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Report unusual patient conditions, incomplete collections, or specimen issues promptly.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT or equivalent), depending on state requirements.
1-2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred, especially in mobile or clinical settings.
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record.
Current CPR/BLS certification (optional but preferred).
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Skills and Competencies
Strong venipuncture skills with low recollection rates.
Excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills.
Ability to handle difficult blood draws with patience and professionalism.
Attention to detail and accuracy in specimen labeling.
Comfort with technology for documentation and scheduling.
Physical ability to lift supplies and travel between locations.
Work Environment
Frequent travel to patient homes or care facilities.

Flexible schedule; may include early mornings or weekends depending on assignments.
