Key Responsibilities
. Blood Collection: Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood samples from patients, ensuring proper techniques are used to minimize discomfort and risk.
Patient Interaction: Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and provide reassurance to alleviate anxiety.
Sample Handling: Accurately label and handle blood samples to ensure they are sent to the laboratory for testing without contamination.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of blood collection, including patient information and sample details, while ensuring confidentiality.
Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare teams, including nurses and laboratory staff, to ensure efficient patient care and accurate test results.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education: A diploma or certification in phlebotomy or a related field is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with experience in healthcare settings.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in blood collection techniques and familiarity with laboratory procedures are essential.

Phlebotomists typically work in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and community health centers. They may also visit patients in their homes or care facilities, requiring flexibility and the ability to work in various settings.
