The Pharmacy Assistant will support the pharmacy team by dispensing medications, maintaining stock, assisting patients and hospital staff, and ensuring smooth functioning of the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations. The role emphasizes accuracy, compliance, patient safety, and efficient service delivery.
Key Responsibilities1. Medication Dispensing
Assist the pharmacist in dispensing medications for OPD and IPD patients.
Ensure correct medication, dosage, and quantity as per prescription.
Label medicines accurately and ensure clarity in instructions.
Maintain high standards of safety and avoid dispensing errors.
2. Stock & Inventory Management
Receive, check, and store pharmacy stock as per guidelines.
Maintain proper arrangement of medicines based on category, batch, and expiry.
Conduct routine stock checks, shelf audits, and expiry tracking.
Report shortages, near-expiry, and slow-moving items to the Pharmacy In-charge.
Assist in maintaining minimum and maximum stock levels.
3. Billing & Documentation
Generate pharmacy bills accurately using hospital software (HIS).
Maintain proper documentation for controlled substances as per regulations.
Support insurance and billing teams with pharmacy-related paperwork when required.
Ensure all entries are updated in the system in real-time.
4. Patient & Staff Interaction
Provide courteous and timely assistance to patients collecting medicines.
Explain basic usage instructions as guided by the pharmacist.
Assist doctors and nurses by providing required drugs and consumables promptly.
Handle patient queries professionally and escalate where needed.
5. Compliance & Safety
Follow NABH guidelines, pharmacy SOPs, and hospital policies.
Ensure medication storage conditions such as temperature and humidity are maintained.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the pharmacy area.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of expired or damaged medicines.
6. Operational Support
Assist in preparing daily medication kits for wards, ICUs, and operation theatres.
Support the pharmacist in maintaining drug registers, narcotic logs, and purchase records.
Participate in internal audits, stock verifications, and quality checks.
Coordinate with vendors and supply chain teams when needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum: D. Pharm
Preferred: B. Pharm
0-3 years of experience in hospital pharmacy or medical store (freshers may also apply).
Basic knowledge of medicines, consumables, and pharmacy operations.
Ability to use computer systems and billing software.
Strong attention to detail and responsibility.
Good communication and service mindset.
