Key Responsibilities

:

Medication Management

: Accurately dispense prescribed medications related to ocular conditions, including eye drops, ointments, and oral medications. Ensure proper labeling and packaging of medications according to hospital protocols and regulatory standards. Maintain accurate patient medication records, including details on prescriptions and dispensed drugs. Monitor and ensure the appropriate storage of medications, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Patient Counseling and Education

: Provide patient education on the correct usage of eye medications, including dosage, application techniques, and potential side effects. Counsel patients regarding drug interactions, side effects, and alternatives where necessary. Address patient inquiries related to medications, eye care products, and treatment regimens.

Collaboration with Medical Team

: Work closely with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and nursing staff to ensure comprehensive pharmaceutical care for patients. Participate in rounds and provide recommendations on pharmacotherapy management for eye conditions. Ensure the availability of critical medications for the management of ocular emergencies.

Inventory Control

: Monitor and manage the pharmacy inventory, ensuring timely stock replenishment of essential medications and supplies. Maintain proper documentation for inventory management and audit trails.

Quality Control and Compliance

: Ensure compliance with hospital policies, pharmaceutical laws, and ethical standards. Assist in the development and implementation of hospital pharmacy policies and procedures related to eye care. Participate in regular audits and inspections of pharmaceutical practices within the hospital.

Patient Safety

: Conduct medication reviews for safety and appropriateness for individual patients, especially those with co-morbidities or special requirements (e.g., pediatric or geriatric patients). Report adverse drug reactions (ADR) to relevant authorities and ensure patient safety is always a priority.

Continuing Education

: Stay updated with the latest developments in pharmacology, especially regarding ocular drugs and treatments. Attend training sessions, seminars, and workshops to further professional development.

Qualifications

:

Education

: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm)

Experience

: Proven experience as a Pharmacist in a healthcare setting, preferably in an eye hospital or a related field. Knowledge of ophthalmic medications, including eye drops, injections, and oral medications for eye diseases.

Skills

: Strong knowledge of pharmacology, particularly ophthalmic drugs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient counseling and interdepartmental collaboration. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality.

Licenses and Certifications

: Valid license to practice as a pharmacist in the relevant jurisdiction.
