Key Responsibilities:
1. Dispensing & Medication Management:
Accurately interpret and dispense prescriptions for both OPD and IPD patients in accordance with physician directives.
Ensure proper labeling, dosage, and packaging of medications as per hospital and statutory guidelines.
Cross-check prescriptions for any potential drug interactions, allergies, or contraindications and report discrepancies to the prescribing doctor.
2. Inventory & Stock Control:
Maintain stock of medicines, surgical consumables, and other pharmacy items to avoid shortages or overstocking.
Conduct daily stock verification and expiration checks; remove expired or damaged stock as per policy.
Coordinate with the purchase department and vendors to ensure timely replenishment of medicines and supplies.
4. IPD Medication Support:
Ensure timely delivery of medications to nursing units and patient bedsides as per the doctor's prescription.
Update and maintain accurate patient medication records and handover at shift changes.
Participate in ward rounds as needed for critical patients requiring close medication monitoring.
5. Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain accurate records of dispensed medications, narcotics, and controlled substances as per legal and NABH/JCI standards.
Support preparation for audits and inspections by maintaining clean and complete documentation.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies and statutory requirements under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
6. Coordination & Team Support:
Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and appropriate patient care.
Assist in training and mentoring of junior pharmacists or interns as per departmental needs.
Participate in internal training programs and continuous professional development sessions.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and hospital pharmacy protocols.
Attention to detail with high accuracy in reading prescriptions and dispensing.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and hospital staff.
Familiarity with hospital pharmacy management systems (HIMS/ERP software).
Ability to manage time effectively and handle high-pressure situations calmly.
Work environment includes pharmacy counters, inpatient wards, and storage areas.
Requires standing for extended periods and handling inventory.
