Job Description

Accurately dispense prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs based on physician orders. Prepare and compound medications, including sterile products (e.g., IV medications) and specialized doses. Ensure correct labeling and packaging of medication. Review physician prescriptions for appropriateness, ensuring correct dosage, drug interactions, allergies, and patient history. Collaborate with healthcare teams to design and monitor individualized treatment plans for patients. Offer recommendations regarding drug therapy, dosages, side effects, and alternative medications. Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings to provide input on drug therapy management. Provide counseling to patients on the proper use, storage, and potential side effects of prescribed medications. Educate patients and their families on the importance of adherence to prescribed regimens. Ensure that medications are stored in accordance with legal and safety standards. Monitor drug inventory levels and ensure proper stock control, avoiding shortages or overstocking. Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, national standards, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, GxP). Report adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medication errors to relevant authorities. Manage the procurement, storage, and distribution of pharmaceutical supplies. Conduct regular stock audits to ensure proper inventory control and minimize medication waste. Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of medications. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pharmaceutical laws and regulations. Ensure the hospital pharmacy operates in accordance with regulatory standards (e.g., Pharmacy Act, Controlled Substances Act). Participate in clinical research initiatives by providing drug-related expertise. Contribute to the development of clinical protocols, treatment guidelines, and pharmaceutical policies.
