Key Responsibilities:





Medication Dispensing:



Accurately dispense prescription medications in accordance with physician orders, ensuring proper labeling and patient instructions. Verify prescriptions for legality, dosage, and potential drug interactions. Prepare and compound medications as required, including intravenous medications or specialized preparations.

Patient Counseling:



Provide patients with detailed instructions on how to take their medications, potential side effects, and any precautions. Counsel patients on over-the-counter medications, advising on correct dosages, possible side effects, and interactions with other treatments. Educate patients on managing chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) with the appropriate use of medications.

Medication Management:



Monitor patient medication profiles to identify potential drug interactions, allergies, or contraindications. Advise healthcare providers on alternatives for medications that may not be effective or safe for specific patients. Ensure the proper storage and handling of medications according to pharmaceutical standards.

Clinical Support:



Collaborate with healthcare teams to assess patient needs and recommend appropriate pharmacological treatments. Provide drug information to physicians and other healthcare providers regarding dosing, potential side effects, and interactions. Participate in therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) programs to adjust doses of medications for optimal patient outcomes.

Regulatory Compliance:



Maintain accurate records of prescriptions and controlled substances, adhering to all local and federal regulations (e.g., DEA regulations). Stay updated on relevant laws and pharmacy practice guidelines. Ensure that all medications meet safety standards and are dispensed in compliance with healthcare regulations.

Inventory Management:



Oversee the stocking and storage of pharmaceuticals, ensuring that inventory is up to date and within expiration dates. Manage medication ordering, ensuring an adequate supply of drugs is maintained without overstocking. Conduct periodic inventory audits and monitor the receipt of medications.

Patient Safety and Quality Control:



Ensure the accuracy of medication dispensed and minimize the risk of medication errors. Promote patient safety initiatives within the pharmacy and healthcare system. Report and investigate any adverse drug reactions or medication errors.
