Job Description

Lead and manage the permitting team to ensure accurate and timely submission of permit applications for solar projects. Review project designs and documentation to confirm compliance with building codes, zoning laws, fire codes, utility requirements, and other regulatory standards. Develop and maintain relationships with permitting authorities, AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction), and utility representatives. Monitor and track permit application status, approvals, and re-submittals, providing regular updates to project managers and leadership. Create and maintain permitting timelines to align with project schedules and deadlines. Identify potential permitting risks or delays and develop mitigation strategies. Train, mentor, and guide permitting coordinators/specialists to ensure consistent performance and regulatory compliance. Maintain knowledge of evolving permitting requirements, building codes, and solar industry standards. Collaborate with design, engineering, and construction teams to resolve permitting-related issues. Implement process improvements to streamline permitting operations and enhance efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Studies, or related field (preferred). 5+ years of experience in permitting, project coordination, or compliance in the solar, construction, or renewable energy sector. Strong understanding of local, state, and national building codes, fire codes, and NEC (National Electrical Code) related to solar installations. Proven experience managing permitting processes for residential, commercial, or utility-scale solar projects. Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively interact with authorities, utilities, and clients. Strong leadership and team management skills. Proficiency in project management tools and permitting software. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
