The Perfumer is responsible for creating, developing, and modifying fragrances for various applications such as perfumes, personal care, home care, incense, attars, and flavour products. The role involves working closely with evaluation, R&D, QC, and sales teams to deliver innovative, commercially viable fragrances that meet client briefs and market trends.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and formulate new fragrances according to client briefs and internal requirements.
Modify existing fragrances to meet cost targets, performance standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Evaluate raw materials, maintain knowledge of aromatic chemicals, essential oils, and natural extracts.
Collaborate with fragrance evaluators, sales teams, and R&D to understand market trends and consumer preferences.
Conduct stability testing and performance evaluation of fragrances in various bases (e.g., alcohol, soaps, detergents, cosmetics, candles).
Maintain and update fragrance formulas, raw material databases, and documentation.
Ensure compliance with IFRA, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.
Participate in client meetings to understand briefs, present fragrance options, and explain technical details.
Work with QC to troubleshoot fragrance-related issues in production.
Stay updated on new raw materials, suppliers, and technological advancements in perfumery.
Maintain an organized lab environment and ensure proper use of equipment.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Perfumery, or related fields.
3-10 years of experience in fragrance creation (depending on seniority level).
Strong knowledge of aroma chemicals, essential oils, and fragrance applications.
Excellent olfactory skills and ability to differentiate and memorize scents.
Understanding of IFRA standards, regulations, and formulation safety.
Creative mindset with strong attention to detail.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Good communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
