About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and creative Penciling Artist to join our Editorial team. As a penciler, you will be responsible for translating scripts, picture briefs, ideas, and story/situation boards into dynamic and expressive pencil sketches that serve as the foundation for final artwork. This role is ideal for someone with strong draftsmanship and a keen eye for composition.

Key Responsibilities Areas

Create high-quality pencil illustrations based on scripts, picture briefs, and story/situation boards. Develop visual layouts, compositions, objects, and panel breakdowns for K-8 textbooks. Collaborate closely with editors, colorists, and graphic designers to bring vision to life. Maintain consistency in set styling, character design, proportions, and visual tone across all pages. Meet project deadlines while maintaining artistic quality and detail. Incorporate feedback and make revisions efficiently.
Requirements

Proven experience as a penciling artist. Strong portfolio showcasing pencil work, character expressions, and situational sequences. Excellent understanding of anatomy, perspective, composition, and visual storytelling. Proficiency with traditional and/or digital drawing tools (e.g., pencil, ink, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.). Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to different artistic styles if required. Strong communication and time-management skills.
Nice to Have

Experience working with publishers or production studios. Familiarity with inking and coloring processes. Understanding of K-8 textbook production pipelines. Passion for application of visual media in education.
