The Pattern Maker in a foundry is responsible for designing, constructing, repairing, and modifying patterns and core boxes used in metal casting processes. The role requires precision, technical skill, and knowledge of foundry practices to ensure accurate, high-quality castings.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to create foundry patterns and core boxes
Manufacture patterns using wood, metal, plastic, or composite materials
Modify and repair existing patterns to meet production or design changes
Ensure proper allowances for shrinkage, machining, draft, and distortion
Collaborate with foundry engineers, molders, and production teams to optimize pattern design
Maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish of patterns
Inspect patterns for defects and ensure compliance with quality standards
Maintain tools, machines, and work area in safe operating condition
Follow safety procedures and foundry best practices
Document pattern specifications and revisions as required
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of foundry processes and casting methods (sand casting, shell molding, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Proficiency in hand tools, woodworking machinery, and measuring instruments
Experience with CAD/CAM software (preferred)
High attention to detail and craftsmanship
Problem-solving and analytical skills
Good communication and teamwork abilities
