Role Overview
The Patient Counselor will be responsible for guiding patients through their clinical journey by explaining diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and associated financial details. This role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and close coordination with doctors, clinical staff, and support teams to ensure a smooth and reassuring patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Counseling & Care Coordination
Counsel patients and attendants on eye conditions, treatment plans, and procedures as advised by the ophthalmologist.
Clearly explain pre-operative and post-operative instructions, recovery expectations, and follow-up requirements.
Address patient concerns with empathy and professionalism to build trust and confidence.
Financial Counseling
Explain procedure packages, cost estimates, insurance/TPS processes, and payment options to patients and families.
Coordinate with billing, insurance, and front-office teams to ensure timely approvals and documentation.
Patient Experience Management
Ensure a seamless patient journey from consultation to treatment, surgery, and discharge.
Follow up with patients for surgery confirmations, compliance, and post-treatment feedback.
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies, clinical protocols, and ethical standards.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate counseling records, consent forms, and patient-related documentation.
Update counseling outcomes and patient status in the hospital management system.
Share regular updates with doctors and department heads as required.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in any discipline (Healthcare / Life Sciences preferred).
1-3 years of experience as a Patient Counselor, Healthcare Counselor, or similar role (eye care or hospital experience preferred).
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong patient-handling ability with empathy and professionalism.
Basic understanding of ophthalmology procedures is an added advantage.
Working knowledge of MS Office and hospital management systems.
Fluency in English, Hindi, and local language preferred.
