Position Summary:

The Pathology Lab Phlebotomist Manager oversees and coordinates all activities of the phlebotomy and specimen collection departments within the pathology laboratory. This role ensures high-quality patient care, accurate specimen collection, efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and effective staff supervision. The manager serves as a liaison between phlebotomists, laboratory personnel, physicians, and patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Supervision:*

Manage, schedule, and supervise phlebotomists and specimen collection staff across all shifts.
Provide training, mentoring, and performance evaluations for phlebotomy personnel.
Foster a positive, professional, and safe working environment.
Operations Management:*

Oversee daily phlebotomy operations to ensure timely and accurate specimen collection.
Ensure proper labeling, handling, and transportation of specimens to maintain integrity.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for specimen collection and processing.
Coordinate with laboratory technologists and pathologists to meet testing and reporting timelines.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:*

Monitor and enforce compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
Conduct regular audits and quality checks to ensure adherence to protocols.
Investigate and resolve specimen collection errors or patient complaints.
Customer Service:*

Ensure phlebotomy services are provided with empathy, professionalism, and patient safety.
Address issues or concerns from patients, physicians, and clinical staff promptly.
Administrative Duties:*

Manage phlebotomy supply inventory and place orders as needed.
Prepare departmental reports, productivity metrics, and performance summaries.
Assist in budgeting, staffing, and policy development for the laboratory department.

Qualifications:

Education:*

Associate or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred).
Certification in Phlebotomy required (e.g., ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent).
Experience:*

Minimum 3-5 years of phlebotomy experience, including at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role within a clinical or pathology laboratory.
Skills & Competencies:*

Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities.
In-depth knowledge of laboratory safety and specimen handling standards.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).
