We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Patent Drafting Expert with 3-5 years of proven experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, exceptional legal analytical skills, and a meticulous attention to detail. This role will be integral to our team, focusing on translating complex technical innovations into robust and defensible patent claims and specifications.
Roles & Responsibilities :
Drafting Patent Applications:
Independently preparing comprehensive and high-quality patent specifications, including detailed descriptions, drawings, and claims, across various technical domains
Conducting inventor interviews to fully understand inventions, identifying novel and patentable aspects, and eliciting necessary details for a complete disclosure
Developing broad, defensible, and strategic claim sets that anticipate potential infringements and align with client business objectives
Ensuring compliance with all USPTO (or relevant international patent office) rules and regulations, including clarity, conciseness, and enablement requirements
Collaborating with inventors and legal counsel to refine disclosure and claim scope
Patent Prosecution :
Preparing responses to Office Actions, including analyzing Examiner rejections (e.g., novelty, obviousness, written description, enablement) and drafting compelling legal arguments and claim amendments
Conducting targeted prior art searches to support Office Action responses or to assess patentability
Preparing formality documents and other prosecution-related correspondence.
Docket Management:
Managing assigned docket efficiently, ensuring all deadlines are met.
Utilizing patent docketing software effectively
Patent Strategy and Inventor Interaction:
Contributing to the development of patent strategy for the business unit and identifying key protectable features and potential competitive advantages in collaboration with international colleagues
Effectively communicating with inventors to gather technical information, explain patent concepts, and provide updates on application status. Building and maintaining professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Technical and Legal Researc
h:
Conducting in-depth technical research to fully grasp complex inventions and related technologies.
Performing legal research on patentability issues, claim construction, and prosecution strategies.
Staying abreast of changes in patent law, regulations, and examination guidelines.
Qualifications
Educational qualification:
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Material Science).
Patent Agent registration is MANDATORY
Experience :
3-5 years of direct experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in a law firm or in-house corporate patent department. This experience should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully drafting complex applications and responding to Office Actions.

Meticulous Attention to Detail: Absolute precision in drafting, proofreading, and reviewing legal documents and technical disclosures.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills for interacting with inventors, international attorneys and stakeholders. Ability to explain complex technical and legal concepts clearly.
Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to dissect complex technical problems, identify novel solutions, and formulate robust legal arguments

Interview Process Considerations:
Writing Samples: Require multiple examples of drafted patent applications (claims and specification sections), Office Action responses, or other relevant legal/technical writing.
Technical Assessment: Will include a technical discussion to gauge depth of technical knowledge.
Drafting Exercise: A practical drafting exercise (e.g., drafting a few claims based on a provided invention disclosure) shall be administered.
* Discussion of Prior Work: Detailed discussion of specific challenges faced in past drafting projects and how they were overcome.
