About the Organisation:




One Billion Lives Foundation (OBLF) is a well-recognised Non-Governmental Organisation delivering community-based Geriatric and Palliative Care (GPC)

services in Bangalore. We combine clinical acumen with public health

expertise, with focus on empowering communities. We are in the process of

establishing an inpatient GPC unit within a major public hospital in the city in

partnership with the Dept of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Karnataka.



About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate

Palliative Care physician to lead our 10-bed inpatient unit inside a major public

hospital in Central Bangalore catering primarily to the urban poor.


You will also play a key role in strengthening Geriatric and Palliative Care service delivery in

Bangalore city, with a focus on the urban poor and marginalised communities.


Required Qualifications







Essentials

:


Bachelor's degree in Medicine (MBBS) from a recognised institution registered with the Karnataka State Medical Council. PG Fellowship in Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in palliative care in an inpatient setting Fluent in both English and Kannada, with excellent communication skills. Demonstrated competence in Geriatric and Palliative Care principles and
practices.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment and to
manage a team effectively.



Desirable

:
MD/DNB in Palliative Medicine, Geriatrics, Family Medicine or Rehabilitation. Experience in multidisciplinary team management or supervision. Experience in working with the public health system in Karnataka.

Responsibilities




Clinical Management:




Deliver comprehensive clinical Geriatric and Palliative Care services
including both inpatient and outpatient care.
Conduct home visits for patients with complex needs, ensuring personalised
care and symptom management.
Develop tailored care plans for frail elderly, in collaboration with patients,
families, and the interdisciplinary team.
Coordinate with allied healthcare professionals to optimise symptom control
and enhance patients' quality of life.
Facilitate multidisciplinary meetings to review patient progress and adjust
treatment plans accordingly.



Administrative Duties:


Manage daily operations of the GPC unit, overseeing scheduling and resource allocation. Ensure accurate medical records and documentation to ensure regulatory Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery and
outcomes
Collaborate with hospital administration to address logistical issues and
improve service efficiency.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff
members.



Collaboration with Urban Local Bodies:


Engage with Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies to advocate for GPC strengthening in the community. Participate and provide leadership to community outreach programs to raise
awareness about GPC and its benefits.
Maintain cordial relationships with elected members and officials to help
implement GPC in their respective areas.
Represent OBLF in general and GPC in particular in interdisciplinary
committees and community forums.
Collaborate with local organisations to secure resources for vulnerable patient
populations.




Collaboration with the Public Health System:


Maintain excellent working relationships with employees and leadership of the public health system. Collaborate with local health authorities to identify opportunities for GPC
expansion.
Provide training to medical officers, CHO, PHCOs and other healthcare
providers for GPC.
Contribute to policy discussions aimed at improving end-of-life care and
access to palliative services.
Participate in research projects to generate evidence supporting the
effectiveness of palliative care interventions.







Miscellaneous:


Stay updated on advancements in palliative care through continuing education and professional development activities. Adhere to ethical standards and principles or patient centred care in all
interactions
Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervising authority to
support the GPC program's goals and objectives.
