We are looking to hire a Packaging Development Manager, Oral Care in our Oral Care R&D (BG) team based in Mumbai / Unilever R&D Bangalore: Business Context The Oral Care category, through its Billion Smiles Mission, strives to bring healthy teeth and beautiful smiles to 1 billion consumers, through leading brands like Pepsodent, Close up, P/S, Regenerate etc. This job is based in Packaging function within the Global R&D team with primary responsibility for leading and delivering superior packaging through innovation and non-innovation projects. Packaging is a critical function within Unilever. We partner with the world\'s leading packaging suppliers. Packaging innovation and technology plays a key role in our business goals driving growth (esp. positioning, premiumisation) and managing environmental impact. Packaging plays a prominent role in innovation plans and is a key capability to drive competitive advantage. Not only does it fulfil a very important functional role, to contain, protect and inform, but also as the first \'touchpoint\' with the consumer, it must engage the consumer, reflecting the brand proposition, and delivering a delightful experience. The Oral Care Global Packaging Design team focus is on designing of packaging innovations, mainly with tubes and flexibles, plastic bottles and closures, corrugated secondary packaging and pallet plans are also developed. The primary purpose of this position is to lead the Packaging workstream for all the R&D packaging elements of key brands catering mainly to global D&E markets which includes innovation, renovation, VIP, simplification. Additionally, this role will support the global program to transition to recyclable tubes and work along side our cross functional teams to support the tube capacity build program globally. The position requires strong people skills esp. stakeholder & peer management as well as strong project management skills to manage the large portfolio with minimal resources. The job holder will work closely with other development functions like CI teams, supply chain, procurement, planning, packaging converters, mould makers, formulation and machine manufacturers. Main job purpose The job holder will work closely with Unilever cross functional team members to deliver innovation projects, supporting all the packaging activities. Main purpose includes: Leading/managing all the packaging aspects of global innovation/ renovation projects. Full responsibility of the packaging design and technical testing to meet the project deliverables. Ensure OTIF delivery of packaging design is in line with the green funnel program to ensure USLP targets met for oral care. Team up with Designer and PC design team to raise packaging design standards and capability with focus on training and use of appropriate tools for innovations Collaborate with tube capability team to bring next level of technologies to life through the innovation program where agreed. Ensure implementation of UPP (one Unilever Packaging Processes) and implement all relevant Packaging Excellence initiatives. Act as packaging WSL (Work stream leader) on projects collaborating with PL ( Project Leader)and TPL (9Technical Project Leader). Take on role as a Technical Project Leadership role on packaging-intensive projects. Build relationships with main key Suppliers through innovation projects. Implement global Pack strategy Main Accountabilities Packaging Development Manager Manage projects independently, working well cross-functionally with Marketing, Supply Chain, other R&D groups, and external suppliers. Lead development of packaging, optimization of specs towards meeting specific attributes, and manage costs. Deep understanding of Innoflex, 1UPP processes Lead /Collaborate in packaging testing including compatibility, stability, migration testing, and others following ISO 13485 requirements. Carry out relevant studies and generate appropriate data for commercial scale up at manufacturing sites. Strong engagement with vendors and attend suitable trade events. Identify, review and assess new technologies from external and internal sources as well as patents. Build a close working partnership with Global Project Leaders and core-project team members and jointly own the projects. Build strong links to the Deploy BU teams and cascade appropriate global communication. Implement Functional Excellence in all projects, using previously developed experience of project and stakeholder management. Perform other tasks as may be required by Research & Development in the fulfilment of its objectives.
