OT assistant, reports to OT incharge/ Surgeon/ Admin
Role Overview
The operation theatre assistant plays a key role in supporting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during surgical procedures. The role involves preparing and maintaining the operation theater, ensuring sterility of instruments, assisting the surgical team during procedures, and handling postoperative requirements to ensure smooth functioning of the OT.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare the operation theatre before each surgery by arranging surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Ensure strict adherence to aseptic and sterile techniques.
Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, handling equipment, and maintaining proper workflow during surgeries.
Help anesthetists and surgeons with positioning and draping of patients.
Maintain OT equipment, sterilize instruments, and check functioning of surgical machines (suction, cautery, lights, etc.).
Safely handle specimens, surgical consumables, and disposables.
Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste as per hospital policies.
Maintain accurate records of instruments, linen, and OT consumables.
Assist in transferring patients before and after surgical procedures.
Support emergency cases by preparing the OT at short notice.
Follow hospital protocols for infection control, patient safety, and confidentiality.
Qualifications & Skills
Diploma / Certificate in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT / COTT) or equivalent.
Prior experience in OT setup preferred (Fresher with training may also apply).
Knowledge of surgical instruments and sterilization protocols.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Good communication skills and teamwork ability.
Physically fit to handle patients and equipment.
Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality, and discipline.
Working Hours
Full-time (8-12 hour shifts, rotational if required).
Availability for emergency or extended hours when needed.
Salary
As per experience and institutional norms.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
