Job Summary:

The OT Technician is responsible for assisting in surgical procedures by preparing and maintaining the operation theatre, sterilizing instruments, arranging surgical equipment, and supporting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during operations. The role ensures a safe, sterile, and efficient surgical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Operative Duties:

Prepare the operation theatre with necessary instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies. Ensure availability and functioning of surgical instruments, suction machines, monitors, cautery units, and anesthesia machines. Assist in positioning and shifting patients to the OT table. Check and maintain sterility of surgical instruments and equipment.

Intra-Operative Duties:

Assist the surgeon and nurses during operations. Pass instruments and supplies as required. Handle specimens (biopsy, tissue samples) carefully as per protocol. Maintain strict aseptic techniques throughout the procedure.

Post-Operative Duties:

Help in shifting patients safely to recovery or ICU. Dispose of used instruments and waste as per biomedical waste guidelines. Clean and sterilize OT instruments and equipment after surgery. Prepare the OT for the next procedure.

General Duties:

Maintain records of instruments, consumables, and OT activities. Ensure proper maintenance and functioning of OT equipment. Follow infection control and safety protocols. Assist in emergency surgeries whenever required.

Skills & Competencies:

Knowledge of surgical instruments and sterilization techniques. Good understanding of infection control and OT protocols. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and communication skills.

Qualification & Experience:

Diploma / Certificate in OT Technician (DOTT / COTT) or equivalent. 0-2 years of experience in a hospital/operation theatre (freshers may also be considered).
