Job Description

Preoperative Preparation:

+ Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and necessary equipment.

+ Check sterilization and availability of required surgical packs and supplies.

Scrub Role Duties:

+ Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and maintaining a sterile field.

+ Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and ensure timely instrument handling.

+ Maintain aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure.

Instrument and Equipment Handling:

+ Ensure proper functioning and sterilization of surgical instruments before and after the surgery.

+ Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery along with circulating nurse.

Patient Safety and Documentation:

+ Verify patient identity, surgical site, and consent with the surgical team.

+ Document intraoperative nursing care and instrument usage as per hospital protocols.

Postoperative Responsibilities:

+ Assist in safe transfer of the patient to recovery or post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).

+ Clean, disinfect, and prepare the OT for the next surgery.

Team Coordination:

+ Coordinate with anesthetists, circulating nurses, and surgeons to ensure smooth OT flow.

+ Participate in surgical team briefings and debriefings.

Compliance and Safety:

+ Follow infection control, sterilization, and waste disposal protocols strictly.

+ Adhere to hospital safety, emergency, and quality control policies.
