Job Summary
The OT Technician will be responsible for providing nursing assistance inside the operation theatre by preparing patients for surgery, maintaining OT equipment, assisting surgeons during operations, ensuring infection control, handling instruments, and maintaining post-operative care. The role ensures smooth functioning of the OT and high-quality care for patients.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Check whether the patient is prepared and brought into the ward to be operated upon.
Collect the OT list from the ward and verify the details.
Ensure all requirements of the concerned surgeon are arranged.
Arrange correct equipment, ensure OT lights, and other apparatus are in working order.
Ensure the scrub nurse has adequate sterile supplies.
Check whether sterile trolleys and instruments are prepared properly.
Scrub for major/minor surgeries if needed.
Assist in patient shifting from trolley to OT table and vice versa.
Prepare the skin with aseptic solution as per protocol.
Provide required sterile and non-sterile articles during surgery.
Maintain record of all items used for the surgery (sponges, swabs, instruments, needles, etc.).
Provide immediate care for specimens collected during surgery and send them to the laboratory.
Dispose of sharps and biomedical waste according to hospital policy.
Ensure postoperative linen disposal and maintain cleanliness.
Shift patient carefully to recovery room/ward/ICU as per instructions.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of OT procedures and aseptic techniques.
Ability to handle surgical instruments and equipment.
Quick response in emergencies.
Effective communication and teamwork.
Attention to detail and accuracy in records.
Knowledge of infection control protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
Certified OT Technician.
0-3 years of experience in Operation Theatre preferred.
Work Conditions
Shift-based work in the Operation Theatre.
Exposure to infection control and emergency situations.
Close coordination with surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff.
