Job Summary:

The OT Nurse plays a critical role in the perioperative care of patients undergoing surgery. This includes pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance, and post-operative recovery support. The nurse ensures a sterile environment, prepares instruments, assists the surgical team, and monitors patient vitals to promote patient safety and positive surgical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities: Pre-operative Duties:

Prepare the operating room with necessary surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment. Verify patient identity, surgical site, and informed consent. Ensure all equipment is functional and sterile before surgery. Assist with patient positioning and skin preparation.

Intra-operative Duties:

Act as a

scrub nurse

(handling instruments and assisting surgeons) or a

circulating nurse

(managing the environment and equipment). Maintain sterile field and anticipate the needs of the surgical team. Monitor the patient's condition and vital signs during surgery. Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to ensure nothing is retained.

Post-operative Duties:

Assist with transferring the patient to the recovery area. Document intraoperative care and observations. Clean and sterilize instruments and the operating room for the next case. Communicate effectively with the recovery room staff and hand over patient care.

Qualifications:

GNM / B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized nursing college/institute. Registered Nurse with [State/National] Nursing Council. Certification in OT Nursing or Perioperative Nursing (preferred). [Optional: Experience in specialized surgeries (orthopedic, cardiac, neuro, etc.)]

Skills and Competencies:

Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and aseptic techniques. Attention to detail and ability to work in high-pressure environments. Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with infection control and sterilization protocols.
