Leadership & Administration



Develop and implement strategies aligned with the organization's mission and vision to ensure safe and efficient functioning of the OT department.

Manage surgery scheduling, booking, and prioritization in consultation with surgeons and anesthetists to optimize workflow and reduce delays.

Prepare and manage duty rosters for OT nursing staff, ensuring adequate coverage and operational efficiency.

Supervise theatre nurses during duty hours to maintain discipline, safety, and adherence to clinical and organizational standards.

Oversee all aspects of OT administration, including staff performance, conduct, and workflow coordination.

Liaise with anesthetists and surgeons to ensure seamless conduct of surgical procedures.

Notify surgical teams promptly in case of schedule changes or delays.

Coordinate with the Nursing Superintendent for manpower planning, recruitment input, and staff allocation.

Clinical & Technical Responsibilities



Scrub in and act as a circulating nurse for complex or emergency surgical cases when required.

Ensure all OT areas are adequately prepared, equipped, and compliant with sterile protocols before each procedure.

Collaborate with the CSSD team to ensure timely availability, safe handling, and proper reprocessing of instruments.

Verify that used trays and surgical sets are cleaned, sterilized, and stored properly for subsequent use.

Supervise cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of OT after each case, ensuring compliance with hospital and NABH guidelines.

Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of surgical instruments and OT equipment, coordinating with the Biomedical Engineering department for calibration, repair, and traceability.

Provide direct support to surgeons and anesthetists during procedures while maintaining optimal sterile technique.

Document intra-operative complications promptly and report to the Nursing Superintendent and concerned medical team.

Safety, Compliance & Quality



Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention protocols, biomedical waste handling, and NABH-compliant waste segregation.

Maintain compliance with NABH standards by accurately recording, monitoring, and submitting OT quality indicators (e.g., surgical site infections, antibiotic prophylaxis, turnaround time).

Conduct periodic audits of OT processes, including checklists, records, and stock registers; facilitate internal and external audits as per hospital guidelines.

Review and verify all nurse-maintained checklists, equipment logs, maintenance records, and stock ledgers for completeness and accuracy.

Promote a culture of patient safety and staff safety by enforcing universal precautions, surgical safety checklists (WHO/NABH), and risk management practices.

Ensure OT temperature, humidity, and air quality are monitored and maintained within prescribed standards.

Training & Development



Provide orientation and structured training for new staff; conduct refresher sessions for existing staff on OT protocols, infection control, and safety.

Mentor and support junior nurses and technicians to build competency and accountability.

Organize periodic mock drills (e.g., fire safety, disaster preparedness, code blue) in coordination with hospital quality and safety teams.

Participate in periodic review and revision of OT-related policies, SOPs, and best practice guidelines.

Education - B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM with valid registration

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (mandatory)
