Meditrina Hospital, Kollam, invites applications from qualified and experienced OT & Anesthesia Technician. The desired candidate should have at least 3 Years of work experience.

Job Summary:

The OT & Anaesthesia Technician is responsible for providing technical and clinical support for safe, efficient, and sterile functioning of the Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia services, ensuring compliance with NABH standards, hospital policies, and patient safety protocols.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Operation Theatre Preparation & Support

Prepare OT for scheduled and emergency surgeries as per surgical list.

Ensure availability, functionality, and readiness of OT equipment, instruments, and supplies.

Assist in positioning patients safely on the operating table as per surgical and anaesthetic requirements.

Maintain OT sterility and aseptic techniques at all times.

Assist surgeons and anaesthesiologists during operative procedures as required.

2. Anaesthesia Support Services

Prepare and check anaesthesia workstations, monitors, ventilators, and accessories before each procedure.

Assist the Anaesthesiologist during induction, maintenance, and recovery from anaesthesia.

Ensure availability of drugs, airway equipment, emergency trays, and resuscitation equipment.

Monitor and document anaesthesia-related parameters as instructed.

Assist in shifting patients safely to and from OT, PACU, or ICU.

3. Equipment Handling & Maintenance

Perform daily checks and calibration of OT and anaesthesia equipment.

Identify equipment malfunctions and coordinate timely repairs with biomedical engineering.

Maintain proper records of equipment usage, servicing, and breakdowns.

Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and storage of equipment after procedures.

4. Infection Control & Patient Safety

Strictly adhere to infection prevention and control protocols (PPE, hand hygiene, biomedical waste management).

Participate in OT fumigation, terminal cleaning, and infection control audits.

Report and document incidents, near misses, and adverse events as per hospital policy.

Ensure patient identification and surgical safety checklist compliance.

5. Documentation & Records

Maintain OT registers, anaesthesia records, equipment checklists, and consumable logs accurately.

Ensure proper documentation as per NABH measurable elements and legal requirements.

Assist in audits, inspections, and accreditation-related documentation.

6. Emergency & On-Call Duties

Respond promptly to emergency surgeries and anaesthesia calls.

Participate in Code Blue, trauma, and mass casualty protocols as assigned.

Be available for night shifts, on-call duties, and rotational shifts.

7. Quality Improvement & Training

Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.

Attend mandatory training programs, drills, and competency assessments.

Support training of junior staff, trainees, and interns when required.

8. Required Skills & Competencies

Sound knowledge of OT procedures and anaesthesia equipment.

Knowledge of NABH standards, infection control, and patient safety protocols preferred.

Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations.

Strong attention to detail and adherence to protocols.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ethical conduct, confidentiality, and professional behavior.

9. Working Conditions

Exposure to surgical environments, anaesthetic gases, and emergency situations.

Shift duties including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Strict adherence to hospital safety and infection control policies.
