Roles and Responsiblities

Conduct comprehensive eye exams:

This includes assessing vision, eye health, and overall eye function.

Diagnose and treat vision problems and eye diseases:

Identifying conditions like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, glaucoma, and cataracts.

Prescribe corrective lenses:

Providing eyeglasses, contact lenses, or other vision aids.

Educate patients on eye care:

Providing guidance on maintaining good eye health, wearing contact lenses, and recognizing signs of eye problems.

Refer patients to specialists:

When necessary, referring patients to ophthalmologists for surgical or other specialized medical care.

Maintain accurate patient records:

Keeping detailed records of patient examinations, diagnoses, and treatments.

Assist in minor eye surgeries:

In some cases, optometrists may assist in minor surgical procedures.

Provide optometric counseling:

Advise patients on vision problems and eye care.
