Evaluate visual acuity, binocular vision, and color vision.
Conduct slit-lamp examination and other optical tests.
Assist consultant ophthalmologist during OPD procedures.
Prescribe optical aids: spectacles, lenses.
Screen patients for cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, etc.
Pre-evaluation for surgeries (cataract, LASIK, etc.).
Perform and interpret test reports:
Keratometry
Tonometry (IOP check)
A-Scan / B-Scan (if trained)
OCT, Pachymetry (if applicable)
B. Patient Care & Counseling
Educate patients about diagnosis, lens options, and eye care.
Provide counseling for pre- and post-operative instructions.
Explain medication usage and follow-up requirements.
Maintain patient comfort & confidentiality.
C. Documentation & Record Keeping
Record findings accurately in OPD sheets / EMR.
Maintain test reports and optical measurements.
Ensure proper documentation for NABH compliance.
Update patient history and follow-up charts.
D. Equipment Handling
Ensure proper functioning of optometry equipment.
Perform daily calibration and cleaning of machines.
Report any malfunction to biomedical/management.
Maintain safe & hygienic OPD environment.
3. Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of eye anatomy & vision science
Expertise in refraction and binocular vision testing
Good communication & patient handling skills
Accuracy, attention to detail
Knowledge of optical lenses, frames, contact lenses
Ability to work in fast OPD environment
Willingness to learn and attend trainings
4. Qualification
Diploma / Degree in Optometry (D.Opt / B.Opt / M.Opt)
Registered with appropriate council (if applicable)
5. Work Hours
As per hospital policy (including rotational shifts if required).
