Ophthalmic OT Technician
who will primarily manage OT responsibilities while also supporting diagnostics and community eye care initiatives.
Overview:
This role is primarily focused on
Operation Theatre (OT) management and surgical assistance
in an eye hospital setting. In addition, the candidate will support
ophthalmic diagnostic testing
and assist the optometry team during
eye screening camps
.
Key Responsibilities
A. Operation Theatre (Primary Responsibility)
Prepare, set up, and maintain the ophthalmic operation theatre for surgical procedures.
Ensure strict adherence to OT sterility, cleanliness, and infection control protocols.
Set up, check, and maintain OT equipment and surgical instruments.
Assist ophthalmic surgeons during surgeries and maintain sterile fields throughout procedures.
Support patient preparation, positioning, and safety inside the OT.
Handle surgical instruments before, during, and after procedures.
Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and turnover of the OT between surgeries.
Coordinate sterilization of instruments and ensure proper segregation and storage.
Monitor equipment performance and proactively report technical or maintenance issues.
Maintain OT inventory, consumables, and daily/weekly checklists.
Follow biomedical waste management, OT safety guidelines, and internal protocols.
B. Clinical & OPD Support (Secondary Responsibility)
Conduct ophthalmic diagnostic tests using equipment such as
OCT, Visual Field Analyzer
, and other diagnostic machines as required.
Ensure accurate patient positioning, data capture, and documentation of diagnostic results.
Coordinate with ophthalmologists and optometrists for smooth patient flow in the OPD.
Maintain and care for diagnostic equipment and report malfunctions promptly.
C. Camps & Community Eye Care Support
Participate in eye screening camps organized by Nivora Eye Institute.
Assist optometrists during vision screening, preliminary testing, and patient flow managementat camps.
Qualifications and Requirements
Educational Qualification
Certificate/Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology or Allied Ophthalmic Technician
Experience
0-3 years of experience as an OT Technician.
Freshers with strong eye OT knowledge and willingness to learn are welcome.
Prior experience in an
ophthalmic OT / eye hospital
is required.
Skills & Competencies
Sound knowledge of OT protocols and infection control practices.
Familiarity with ophthalmic surgical instruments and OT workflows.
Basic understanding of ophthalmic diagnostic equipment (training can be provided).
Strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and discipline.
Ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, optometrists, nurses, and support staff.
Patient-centric mindset and professional conduct.
Willingness to assist in camp activities when required.
