Position Overview
The General Nurse in the Ophthalmology Department provides comprehensive nursing care to patients with eye-related conditions. The role involves pre- and post-operative care, assisting in procedures, patient education, and supporting ophthalmologists and other healthcare staff in delivering high-quality eye care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
Assist with admission, assessment, and discharge of ophthalmic patients.
Monitor and record vital signs and symptoms.
Administer medications and eye drops as per doctor's orders.
Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care to patients undergoing eye surgeries (e.g., cataract, glaucoma, retinal procedures).
Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures such as visual acuity testing, A-scan, B-scan, and OCT.
Clinical Assistance
Assist ophthalmologists during minor and major eye procedures/surgeries.
Ensure sterile techniques and proper infection control during interventions.
Operate ophthalmic equipment safely and ensure they are cleaned and maintained regularly.
Patient Education
Educate patients on eye care, medication usage, and post-operative precautions.
Explain surgical procedures, expected outcomes, and follow-up protocols.
Counsel patients and families about eye health and vision rehabilitation.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of nursing care, medications, and observations.
Document surgical checklists, incident reports, and patient progress notes.
Coordinate with administrative and clinical teams for smooth patient flow.
Emergency Response
Provide first aid and emergency care for acute ophthalmic conditions.
Respond promptly to complications or adverse reactions.
Qualifications
GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) or B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
Registered Nurse with local nursing council.
Preferred: Experience in ophthalmology or a surgical unit.
Skills and Competencies
Strong communication and patient-care skills.
Basic knowledge of ophthalmic diseases and surgical procedures.
Ability to work in a team with doctors and technicians.
Attention to detail and infection control practices.
Comfortable using EMR systems and basic computers.
Work Environment
OPD clinics, minor OT, major OT, recovery rooms, and patient wards.
May include shift work, weekend duty, or emergency calls.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹54,148.98 per month
