8-15 years in Water Treatment / Water Supply O&M desired

1. Role Overview

The Plant Manager - O&M will lead the day?to?day operation, preventive maintenance, breakdown management, and performance monitoring of a Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) water treatment plant and associated pumping/mechanical systems.
He/she will ensure continuous water supply, optimal plant performance, and strict compliance with JJM protocols, quality norms, safety standards, and statutory requirements.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Operations Management

Oversee daily functioning of

WTP/Intake/Pumping stations

, ensuring uninterrupted operations. Monitor and optimise

pumps, motors, blowers, valves, chlorination systems, clarifiers, filters, reservoirs

etc. Ensure accurate operation of SCADA/automation systems (if applicable). Maintain raw water, treated water, and chemical dosing parameters within prescribed standards. Ensure compliance with JJM operational guidelines and water quality benchmarks.

B. Mechanical Maintenance

Plan and execute

preventive and predictive maintenance

for all mechanical equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve breakdowns of pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, and mechanical sub?assemblies. Coordinate with OEMs, contractors, and vendors for major repairs. Maintain updated asset records, service logs, and AMC schedules.

C. Water Quality Compliance

Coordinate water sampling, testing, and quality monitoring as per JJM norms. Ensure functioning of laboratory equipment and record keeping. Implement corrective actions in case of deviations from water quality standards.

D. Manpower Management

Manage O&M team including operators, technicians, fitters, and helpers. Allocate shifts, track attendance, and ensure adequate manpower availability 24x7. Conduct training on plant operation, equipment handling, and safety.

E. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain daily operation records, logbooks, and incident reports. Prepare MIS reports for flow, pressure, energy consumption, chemical usage, efficiency etc. Coordinate with government officials, client representatives, and internal management.

F. Safety & Compliance

Implement safety procedures, PPE usage, and hazard-control measures. Ensure compliance with statutory guidelines: pollution control, labour norms, water standards, and plant SOPs. Conduct safety drills and ensure preventive safety audits.

G. Inventory & Material Management

Monitor stock levels of critical spares, consumables, chemicals, and lubricants. Raise purchase requirements and maintain cost?efficient inventory control. Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals like alum, chlorine, lime etc.

3. Skills & Competencies RequiredTechnical Skills

Strong knowledge of water treatment processes:
Coagulation, flocculation, filtration, disinfection, pumping, sludge handling, pressure systems.

Expertise in pumps, motors, bearings, pipelines, valves, rotating equipment. Understanding of SCADA/PLC-based plant automation. Ability to read engineering drawings, P&ID, mechanical layouts.

Managerial & Soft Skills

Leadership & team management. Strong troubleshooting and analytical ability. Excellent coordination with government stakeholders. Documentation, reporting, and professional communication. Safety consciousness and crisis-handling capability.

4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Continuous and interruption-free water supply. Equipment uptime and reduction in breakdown frequency. Compliance with JJM water quality norms. Energy efficiency and cost control. Timely reporting and zero safety incidents. Manpower performance and discipline.

5. Salary & Benefits

As per company norms

Pay: ?60,000.00 - ?120,000.00 per month
