Job Description

Job Summary:

The Operation Theatre Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining the operating room before, during, and after surgical procedures. This includes sterilizing equipment, ensuring availability of surgical instruments, assisting surgeons and nurses during operations, and maintaining aseptic conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-operative Duties:

Prepare the operating theatre by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, drapes, and sterile supplies. Check and ensure all equipment is in proper working condition. Assist in positioning and prepping the patient for surgery. Ensure strict adherence to aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures.

Intra-operative Duties:

Assist the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments and materials. Operate and monitor equipment such as suction machines, diathermy units, and lights. Maintain a sterile field and ensure all surgical instruments are accounted for. Handle specimens carefully and label them appropriately.

Post-operative Duties:

Clean and disinfect the operating theatre after each surgery. Prepare instruments for sterilization. Restock supplies and ensure readiness for the next procedure. Assist in transferring patients to the recovery room or ward.

Administrative and Safety Responsibilities:

Maintain accurate records of surgical instruments and consumables used. Follow hospital infection control protocols strictly. Report any equipment malfunctions or incidents promptly. Assist in inventory management and request for replenishment of supplies.

Qualifications:

Diploma or Certificate in Operation Theatre Technology from a recognized institute. Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a similar role. Basic knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures.

Strong understanding of sterilization and infection control procedures. Attention to detail and good organizational skills. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Team player with excellent communication skills. Physical stamina and ability to stand for long periods.
