Job Description

Sterilization:

Sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment using autoclaves or chemical solutions to prevent hospital-acquired infections.

Equipment Setup:

Preparing the operating table, adjusting lights, and setting up complex machines like ventilators, monitors, and cautery machines.

Inventory Check:

Ensuring all necessary surgical drapes, sutures, and specialized tool kits are present.

Patient Prep:

Transporting patients to the OT and helping position them on the surgical table to ensure the surgeon has the best access while the patient remains safe.

Scrubbing In:

Performing a surgical scrub and assisting the surgeons and nurses in putting on sterile gowns and gloves.

Instrument Handling:

Passing sterile instruments (scalpels, forceps, retractors) to the surgeon quickly and accurately.

Surgical Count:

Along with the nurse, they must count every sponge, needle, and tool before and after the surgery to ensure nothing is left inside the patient.

Anesthesia Support:

Assisting the anesthesiologist by monitoring patient vitals and managing the anesthesia workstation.

Dressing:

Applying bandages or surgical dressings to the incision site.

Patient Transfer:

Helping move the patient from the operating table to the recovery stretcher.

OT Decontamination:

Disposing of biohazardous waste (blood-soaked materials, sharps) and cleaning the room according to strict infection control protocols.

Equipment Maintenance:

Checking for any damaged tools and sending them for repair so the OT is ready for the next emergency.
