The OT Incharge is responsible for managing the overall functioning of the Operation Theatre. This includes supervising OT staff, ensuring the availability of instruments and supplies, maintaining sterile conditions, scheduling surgeries, coordinating with surgical teams, and ensuring adherence to hospital protocols and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Supervision & Coordination:
Lead and supervise the OT nursing staff, technicians, and support staff.
Allocate duties and prepare staff rosters/shifts.
Ensure discipline, punctuality, and professional behavior within the OT team.
Conduct regular briefings and debriefings with the surgical team.
Surgical Scheduling & Coordination:
Coordinate surgery schedules in consultation with surgeons, anesthetists, and ward staff.
Ensure timely readiness of OT for scheduled and emergency surgeries.
Resolve scheduling conflicts and prioritize cases as needed.
Clinical & Operational Oversight:
Monitor pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative procedures to ensure compliance with protocols.
Ensure proper handling, sterilization, and availability of surgical instruments and equipment.
Maintain strict aseptic techniques and infection control standards.
Ensure proper labeling and dispatch of surgical specimens.
Inventory & Equipment Management:
Monitor inventory levels of surgical supplies, sutures, medicines, and linen.
Raise purchase requisitions and coordinate with stores/pharmacy for timely procurement.
Ensure all OT equipment (monitors, anesthesia machines, lights, etc.) is functional and serviced regularly.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate OT records, including surgery registers, consumables used, and patient details.
Prepare and submit regular reports on OT utilization, staff performance, and surgical outcomes.
Investigate and report incidents or complications in the OT.
Training & Development:
Conduct training sessions and refreshers for OT staff on protocols, emergency procedures, and new technologies.
Support continuing education and professional development of OT personnel.
Qualifications:
GNM / B.Sc. Nursing (Bachelor's preferred).
Additional certification in OT Management or Surgical Nursing is a plus.
Minimum 5-8 years of OT experience, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
Valid nursing registration (if applicable).
