The OT Technician will be responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures by preparing and maintaining the operation theater, sterilizing equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperation Theater Preparation
Prepare the operation theater before each procedure, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterilized and set up according to the surgical requirements.
Check functionality of OT equipment such as monitors, suction systems, diathermy units, and anesthesia machines.
Arrange surgical instruments and maintain sterile conditions throughout the procedure.
Intraoperative Support
Assist surgeons and nursing staff during surgical procedures.
Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment as directed by the surgical team.
Maintain a sterile field and ensure proper infection control practices.
Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth procedure flow.
Post-Operative Duties
Safely dispose of biomedical waste as per hospital and regulatory guidelines.
Clean and restock the operation theater after each procedure.
Sterilize instruments and prepare them for future use.
Document usage of supplies and report shortages or equipment issues.
Equipment & Inventory Management
Regularly check and maintain OT equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Monitor stock levels of surgical supplies and report replenishment needs.
Assist in inventory management and tracking of instruments.
Qualifications & SkillsEducation & Experience
Diploma in Operation Theater Technology / B.Sc. in OT Technology or equivalent.
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a hospital surgical setting preferred.
Skills
Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile techniques.
Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Attention to detail and strong sense of responsibility.
Familiarity with infection control protocols and biomedical waste management.
Work Environment
Full-time position.
Shifts may include weekends, nights, and emergency on-call duties depending on hospital requirements.
