Operation & Maintenance Supervisor

Year    RJ, IN, India

Job Description

The Operations & Maintenance Supervisor for the Solar Power Plant is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the daily operations and maintenance activities to ensure the efficient, safe, and optimal performance of the solar photovoltaic (PV) plant. This role involves leading a team of O&M technicians, implementing preventive and corrective maintenance programs for PV modules, inverters, tracking systems, substations, and associated infrastructure, and ensuring maximum energy generation and grid availability. The supervisor will be critical in upholding safety standards, optimizing plant output, and adhering to all operational procedures and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Supervision:

Lead, train, and supervise a team of O&M technicians, fostering a strong safety culture and promoting teamwork. Assign, schedule, and monitor O&M tasks, including routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs, ensuring timely completion and quality standards. Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify training needs (e.g., for new inverter technologies, tracking systems) for the O&M team. Ensure technicians are properly trained and equipped with necessary PPE and tools to perform their duties safely and effectively in a solar plant environment.

O&M Planning & Execution (Solar Specific):

Develop, implement, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for all critical solar plant components, including PV modules, string inverters, central inverters, combiners, AC/DC cabling, mounting structures, and tracking systems. Prioritize and coordinate corrective maintenance activities in response to alarms, faults, and equipment failures (e.g., inverter trips, module hot spots, tracker malfunctions). Oversee the execution of work orders derived from the SCADA/monitoring system, ensuring proper documentation, resource allocation, and adherence to O&M procedures. Collaborate with the grid operations team to manage grid curtailments and ensure smooth power evacuation. Monitor plant performance through SCADA systems, identify deviations, and initiate corrective actions to maximize PR (Performance Ratio) and energy yield. Manage vegetation control and site cleanliness to prevent shading and maintain access.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:

Act as a primary point of contact for complex technical issues, alarms, and equipment malfunctions in the solar plant. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring failures (e.g., specific inverter issues, persistent string faults) and implement corrective actions. Utilize technical expertise to diagnose electrical, mechanical, and communication problems within the solar plant and guide technicians in effective troubleshooting.

Inventory & Spares Management:

Manage and optimize spare parts inventory specific to solar components (e.g., fuses, surge protection devices, inverter components, tracker motors, communication modules), ensuring adequate stock levels while minimizing carrying costs. Initiate purchase requisitions for spare parts, tools, and consumables as needed. Implement inventory control best practices to track usage and prevent stock-outs.

Safety & Compliance:

Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring all O&M activities are conducted in accordance with company safety policies, high-voltage safety protocols, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and relevant electrical safety regulations. Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment, high-voltage areas, and work areas. Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions to improve safety performance, especially concerning electrical hazards. Ensure compliance with all environmental, quality, and grid code standards related to solar plant operations and maintenance.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

Utilize SCADA and plant monitoring platforms to track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as availability, PR, energy yield, and downtime. Maintain accurate O&M records, including work orders, equipment history, and spare parts consumption. Prepare regular reports on plant performance, O&M activities, and key metrics for management.

Continuous Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and efficiency gains within the solar O&M department. Implement best practices for solar plant maintenance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related technical field.
