The Nursing OPD In-Charge is responsible for managing and coordinating all nursing activities in the Outpatient Department to ensure smooth patient flow, quality nursing care, efficient utilization of resources, and compliance with hospital policies and clinical standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical & Patient Care
Ensure high-quality nursing care to all OPD patients.
Supervise triaging, vital signs monitoring, and patient preparation for consultations and procedures.
Ensure strict adherence to infection control and patient safety protocols.
Handle emergency cases in OPD and ensure timely escalation.
2. OPD Operations & Coordination
Oversee daily OPD functioning, patient flow, and waiting time management.
Coordinate with doctors, diagnostics, pharmacy, and billing for smooth OPD operations.
Ensure proper appointment scheduling and queue management.
Monitor turnaround time (TAT) for consultations and procedures.
3. Staff Management
Prepare duty rosters, ensure optimal nurse deployment, and manage leave planning.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate OPD nursing staff.
Conduct on-the-job training and performance monitoring.
Resolve staff-related issues and maintain discipline.
4. Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain OPD nursing documentation, registers, and reports.
Monitor availability of consumables, medicines, and equipment in OPD.
Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of OPD equipment.
Participate in audits, NABH/JCI quality initiatives, and inspections.
5. Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and statutory guidelines.
Implement quality improvement initiatives in OPD.
Monitor patient feedback and work on service improvement.
Report incidents, near misses, and adverse events.
6. Patient & Attendant Communication
Address patient grievances and escalations related to nursing services.
Educate patients and attendants regarding procedures and care instructions.
Ensure courteous and compassionate communication at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualification:
B.Sc Nursing / GNM (Mandatory)
Registration:
Valid State Nursing Council Registration
Experience:
Minimum 5
-8 years
of nursing experience with 4
years in OPD / supervisory role
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent communication and patient handling skills
Knowledge of OPD workflows and hospital operations
Familiar with NABH standards and infection control practices
Ability to handle emergencies and high patient volumes
Basic computer skills (HIS, EMR, MS Office)
