The Nursing Supervisor (or Assistant Nursing Supervisor) is responsible for overseeing nursing staff and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. This role involves coordinating daily operations, supervising nursing personnel, managing staffing levels, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate daily nursing operations across assigned units.
Monitor patient care delivery and intervene as needed to ensure quality and safety.
Assist in planning and implementing nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Provide leadership, coaching, and performance evaluations to nursing staff.
Participate in staff scheduling and ensure adequate staffing levels.
Respond to emergencies and serve as the administrative authority on assigned shifts.
Conduct rounds to assess care quality and address patient or family concerns.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA, state licensing).
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Oversee orientation and ongoing education of nursing personnel.
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required.
Qualifications:
Education
: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) acceptable with experience.
Licensure
: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
Experience
:
Nursing Supervisor: Minimum 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Assistant Nursing Supervisor: 2-3 years of clinical experience, leadership potential preferred.
Certifications
: BLS required; ACLS, PALS, or other specialty certifications may be required based on unit.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong leadership and team-building skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Proficient in clinical decision-making and critical thinking.
Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards.
Ability to manage time and multiple priorities effectively.
Proficient with electronic health records (EHR) and basic computer systems.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced healthcare environment with direct patient care responsibilities.
May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts, and on-call availability.
Physical requirements include lifting patients, standing for extended periods, and responding quickly in emergencies.
