The Staff Nurse assigned to the Cardiac & ENT Cluster provides patient-centered nursing care under the guidance of physician specialists and the nursing leadership. The nurse is responsible for pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care, monitoring vitals, administering medications, and supporting recovery for cardiac and ENT patients.
Key Responsibilities:1. Patient Care & Clinical Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients in the
Cardiology
and
ENT
departments.
Monitor and record vital signs, ECGs, oxygen saturation, and fluid balance, especially in cardiac patients.
Assist in managing patients with heart failure, post-angioplasty, pacemakers, and arrhythmias.
Support ENT patients undergoing surgeries (e.g., tonsillectomy, septoplasty, cochlear implants) and manage ENT-specific assessments like hearing, balance, and airway.
Prepare and assist during cardiac and ENT procedures (e.g., endoscopies, catheterizations, surgical preps).
Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation (nursing notes, medication records, handover sheets).
2. Pre- and Post-Operative Care
Conduct pre-op checklists and patient education for cardiac and ENT surgeries.
Provide post-op monitoring and care including pain management, wound care, suctioning, tracheostomy care, and patient mobilization.
3. Emergency & Critical Care Support
Identify and respond to clinical deterioration (chest pain, dyspnea, arrhythmias, airway obstruction).
Administer emergency drugs and follow code blue protocols when needed.
Work closely with ICU/CCU teams for high-dependency cardiac cases.
4. Medication & Equipment Management
Administer medications as per physician orders and monitor for adverse reactions.
Handle and maintain specialized equipment: cardiac monitors, defibrillators, pulse oximeters, suction machines, tracheostomy kits, etc.
Ensure infection control practices and sterile technique are strictly followed.
5. Coordination & Communication
Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams including cardiologists, ENT surgeons, physiotherapists, audiologists, and dieticians.
Educate patients and families about disease management (e.g., hypertension, post-surgical care, tracheostomy management, cardiac rehab).
Participate in patient handovers and interdepartmental communication.
6. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain nursing records in compliance with hospital protocols, NABH/JCI standards.
Report incidents, falls, and medication errors as per hospital reporting policy.
Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and training programs.

Clinical expertise in cardiac and ENT patient management.
Strong assessment, monitoring, and critical thinking skills.
Effective communication and patient education abilities.
Knowledge of BLS, ACLS (for cardiac nurses), tracheostomy and suctioning procedures (for ENT nurses).
Adherence to infection control and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) or B.Sc. Nursing.
Registration with State Nursing Council.
Experience:
Cardiac Nurses:
1-3+ years preferred in cardiac/ICU/CCU setup.
ENT Nurses:
1-3+ years in ENT/OR/ward management with ENT cases.
