Job Purpose:
The Staff nurse is responsible for the complete nursing care of the patient assigned to her. The following duties would be performed as the situation warrants.
A. General Patient Care: o Assistance and instructions to patient and their relations. o Bathing patients including daily care of mouth, nails and pressure points. o Four hourly or more frequent attentions to pressure points. o Giving and removing of bed pans and urine bottles. o Giving and removing of hot water bottle. o Bed making and Feeding patients.
B. General duties: o Demonstration and guidance to nurses, new joiners, hospital aides, and Ground staff. o Assistance in orientation of new staff nurses. o Participation in staff education and staff meeting. o Participation in professional activities. o Any other duty that may be assigned by the Nursing Superintendent or Nursing Co-ordinator from time to time.
C. Nursing Care: o Administration of medicine. o Administration of injections o Assistance in administration of I/V injection. o Preparation of injections and clearing up or termination of procedure. o Recording of medicines & injection given. o Taking and charting T.P.R & BP o Rounds with doctor.
D. Technical Procedures: e.g. Enema, Catheterization, Dressings o Preparation for and assistance in clinical tests and medical procedure. o Prepare the patient and clear up after procedures. o Pre and Post-Operative care, Urine testing. o Collecting labeling and dispatching of specimens. o Escorting patients to and from departments. o Giving and receiving reports.
E. Ward Management: o Handing over and taking charge of shift. o Keeping the ward clean and tidy. o Preparation of surgical supplies, bandage, splint. o Routine care and cleaning of dressing trolleys, cupboards, apparatus, etc. o Care of clean and soiled linens. o Disinfections of linen, beds, floor and bed pans.
