The Nursing In-Charge is responsible for supervising and coordinating the nursing staff and activities within a hospital unit, ward, or department. They ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, adherence to hospital policies, and compliance with nursing standards and protocols. The role involves clinical leadership, staff management, and administrative responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities1. Patient Care Management
Oversee and ensure the delivery of safe, compassionate, and effective patient care.
Monitor patient conditions and coordinate with doctors and healthcare teams for treatment plans.
Ensure timely assessment, documentation, and reporting of patient status.
Maintain infection control and safety standards.
2. Staff Supervision and Coordination
Supervise, guide, and support nursing and support staff in the ward/unit.
Prepare and manage staff duty rosters and leave schedules.
Identify training needs and facilitate professional development.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
3. Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate patient records, reports, and inventory of medicines, equipment, and supplies.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with other departments for patient transfers, admissions, and discharges.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly nursing activity reports.
4. Quality and Safety
Implement and monitor quality assurance and patient safety protocols.
Participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
Report and manage incidents, errors, and complaints appropriately.
Promote continuous improvement in nursing practices.
5. Communication and Coordination
Serve as the primary point of contact between nursing staff and management.
Conduct regular ward meetings and briefings.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
B.Sc. Nursing / GNM Diploma (Registered Nurse)
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
Licensure:
Valid Nursing Registration with the State Nursing Council.
Skills and Competencies
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Sound clinical knowledge and decision-making ability.
