A NICU Technician assists nurses and doctors in providing specialized care to critically ill or premature newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The role includes equipment handling, basic clinical support, maintaining hygiene standards, and assisting with neonatal procedures.
Key Responsibilities
:
Assist in the daily care and monitoring of neonates in the NICU.
Operate, clean, and maintain NICU equipment like warmers, incubators, CPAP, ventilators, infusion pumps, etc.
Support nurses and doctors during procedures and emergencies.
Maintain accurate records of procedures, equipment usage, and baby details.
Ensure all equipment is functional, sterilized, and ready for use.
Assist with feeding, diapering, and handling of newborns under supervision.
Maintain strict infection control and hygiene practices.
Prepare and transport samples (blood, urine, etc.) to the laboratory.
Monitor and report any abnormal conditions or equipment malfunction to the NICU nurse/doctor.
Assist during neonatal resuscitation and emergencies.
Ensure inventory of medical supplies and request replenishment when required.
Qualifications and Skills
:
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) / NICU Technician Course / Paramedical Course in Neonatal Care.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
1-3 years of experience in NICU or similar healthcare setup.
Knowledge of neonatal equipment and infection control protocols.
Physically and emotionally fit to work in a high-stress environment.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
:
Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Exposure to medical procedures and critically ill newborns.
Requires long hours of standing and focus.
