The NICU RMO Doctor provides round-the-clock medical support for newborns admitted to the NICU. The role includes monitoring critically ill neonates, assisting neonatologists, managing emergencies, maintaining documentation, and ensuring safe clinical practices. Candidates with BAMS MD or BHMS MD are eligible as per hospital policy and applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Monitoring & Care
Provide continuous bedside monitoring of neonates in the NICU.
Record vital signs, input/output charts, and clinical progress.
Assist in managing newborns with respiratory distress, sepsis, low birth weight, jaundice, congenital abnormalities, etc.
Support ventilator and CPAP monitoring under supervision.
Administer prescribed medications, IV fluids, and nebulizations.
2. Emergency Management
Respond promptly to neonatal emergencies such as apnea, desaturation, seizures, and shock.
Provide initial stabilization and immediately escalate to the Neonatologist.
Assist during neonatal resuscitation (NRP preferred).
3. Procedures (Under Supervision)
Assist with line insertions, blood sampling, NG tube placement, and other NICU procedures.
Perform basic procedures within scope and as authorized by hospital policy.
4. Coordination & Communication
Communicate changes in patient condition to the Consultant on duty.
Participate in daily rounds with the NICU team.
Coordinate with nursing staff, lab technicians, and other departments for patient care.
5. Documentation
Maintain accurate and timely medical records in EMR/paper files.
Document doctor notes, progress notes, medication charts, and discharge summaries (as directed).
6. Family Counseling
Provide updates to parents regarding routine progress, under supervision of the Neonatologist.
Support emotional needs of families with sensitivity and clarity.
7. Compliance & Quality
Follow hospital protocols, infection control guidelines, and NICU safety standards.
Participate in audits, training programs, and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications
Education
BAMS MD
or
BHMS MD
(recognized by relevant medical council/university).
Additional training in Emergency Care / NICU preferred but not mandatory.
Certifications (Preferred)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
BLS (Basic Life Support)
Any NICU or Pediatric intensive care training
Experience
0-3 years of experience in NICU/ PICU/ Pediatrics preferred.
Freshers with strong interest in neonatology may be considered.
