B.E / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Specialization or experience in Sheet Metal / Press Tools preferred
Job Summary
The NPD Engineer - Stamping is responsible for managing new product development activities related to sheet-metal stamped parts, from feasibility and tool development to trial validation and production handover. The role requires close coordination with design, tool room, quality, suppliers, and customers to ensure on-time and cost-effective product launches.
Key Responsibilities Product & Process Development
Study customer drawings, specifications, and GD&T
Perform stamping feasibility analysis and risk assessment
Define process flow (blanking, forming, trimming, piercing, etc.)
Prepare strip layouts and basic process concepts
Tool & Die Coordination
Coordinate with press tool designers and tool room
Review die designs for manufacturability and cost
Support die trials, debugging, and improvement actions
Ensure scrap optimization and process robustness
Trial & Validation
Plan and execute tool trials and PPAP activities
Analyze trial issues such as cracks, wrinkles, springback, burrs
Implement corrective actions with cross-functional teams
Achieve dimensional and functional validation
Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with Quality, Production, Purchase, and Suppliers
Support APQP, FMEA, Control Plan, and Process Flow documentation
Participate in customer reviews and technical discussions
Cost & Timing
Support cost estimation for new stamped parts and tooling
Track NPD timelines and ensure on-time SOP
Drive continuous improvement and VA/VE activities
Technical Skills Required
Strong knowledge of
Sheet Metal Stamping Processes
Understanding of
Press Tools - Progressive, Transfer, Tandem
Knowledge of
Die Materials, Clearances, Tonnage Calculations
Hands-on exposure to
Press Trials & Troubleshooting
Familiarity with
APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA
CAD exposure:
AutoCAD / CATIA / NX / SolidWorks (any one)
Behavioral & Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Good communication and coordination abilities
Ability to work under project timelines
Customer-oriented mindset
Willingness to support shop-floor trials
Preferred / Added Advantage
Automotive industry experience
Exposure to BIW or critical safety parts
Knowledge of high-strength steels (HSS, AHSS)
Experience in supplier development
