The Role


We are hiring a Technical Project Manager in India to play a strong leadership role and drive Shell?s Nature Based Solutions (NBS) strategy to build a diversified portfolio of projects, across multiple pathways. Where you fit Nature Based Solutions (NBS) comprise all activities related to the protection of or (re-) development of natural ecosystems resulting in enhanced natural carbon removal or avoided carbon emissions, and the marketing, trading and sale of resulting carbon credits and other services and products. Shell is making a significant commitment in NBS, rooted in the scientific evidence that points to the significant near-term role nature can play in fighting climate change and the additional benefits that investment in nature can generate. To achieve this, Shell is investing in projects that lead to high-integrity nature-based carbon credits, In this role, you are leading the successful implementation of agricultural carbon projects in collaboration with partners, including rice production systems. Your work is central to Shell?s Nature Based Solutions (NBS) strategy to build a diversified portfolio of projects, across multiple pathways. What?s the role? As an NBS technical project manager, you support evaluating and developing opportunities in agricultural systems globally (mainly rice) and lead the development and deployment of pilots to test innovative products or measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) technologies. Further accountabilities are as follows:
  • Technical lead to design new or evaluate existing carbon projects in rice with strong potential for carbon credits and alignment with environmental, social, and economic sustainability requirements
  • Provide technical input and advice to project investment teams, working the interface between carbon yield profiles and economics
  • Support technical screening against Shell?s requirements of existing projects for purchase of carbon credits
  • Support partners in the successful implementation of rice projects throughout the portfolio. This includes support in farmer training content, monitoring, and reporting activities.
  • Lead the design and deployment of pilots to test innovative monitoring technologies to improve accuracy, timeliness, and costs.
  • Be the ?go-to? expert on rice carbon methodologies, contributing to methodology revisions or development to improve or enable new carbon credit generating activities in rice.
  • Collaborate with NBS? regional technical teams as well as field and knowledge partners for the design and implementation of specific projects.
What we need from you We?re keen to hear from individuals with professional experience working in agriculture and rural areas with emphasis on project management and implementation. You?ll also call on your Bachelor?s/Master?s degree in agriculture, agronomy, soil science, environment, or similar field. We also look for the following skills and experience:
  • Additional studies or experience in agricultural project managements and project design in rice production systems
  • Strong skills in agronomy and integrated soil fertility management, preferably in rice systems
  • Knowledge of regenerative agriculture/climate smart agriculture, preferably in smallholder settings
  • Good knowledge of climate change mitigation opportunities in rice systems.
  • Experience in closed chamber measurements to quantify GHG emissions, soil sampling and analysis protocols
  • Deep understanding of carbon certification standards, regulatory accounting, auditing requirements, and practical implications and opportunities.
  • Strong project management skills, with ability to work through complexity and uncertainty
  • A hunger for success, with hands-on experience in developing business strategies to develop and grow new opportunities
  • Highly personable with ability to work with partners and Shell business colleagues, becoming an integral part of virtual teams by adding value and bringing solutions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
