Education : A bachelor\'s degree in civil engineering or a related field is preferred, although some employers may accept a relevant associate degree or vocational training combined with extensive experience. Experience : At least 5 years of experience in tunnel construction, with a focus on NATM and specifically cross passage construction, is typically required. Experience as a foreman or in a similar supervisory role is highly valued. Technical Skills : Thorough understanding of NATM principles, methodologies, and safety practices. Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, plans, and specifications related to tunneling and cross passage construction. Knowledge of relevant software and tools used in tunneling projects. Leadership and Communication Skills : Ability to effectively lead and manage a team of workers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders. Strong communication skills to coordinate with engineers, project managers, and other team members. Problem-solving skills to address challenges that arise during construction. Safety and Regulations : In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to tunnel construction. Experience in implementing and enforcing safety protocols to ensure compliance with regulations and protect workers\' health and safety. Certifications : While not always required, certifications related to tunnel construction, NATM, or specific machinery used in tunneling can be beneficial.
