The Music Teacher will nurture students' interest and talent in music by teaching both vocal and instrumental skills, preparing them for assemblies, annual functions, cultural fests, and external competitions in line with the school's vision and curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Indian and basic Western vocal music (bhajans, patriotic songs, school prayer, group songs, solo performances) across relevant classes.?
Teach selected instruments (e.g., harmonium/keyboard, tabla/dholak, guitar, percussion) and build school choir and instrumental groups.?
Plan and deliver structured lessons on music theory, rhythm, melody, notation, and ear training, appropriate to each age group.?
Prepare and train students for school events: morning assembly, annual day, cultural fest, Independence/Republic Day, competitions, etc.?
Select suitable repertoire and compose/arrange music for school programmes and special occasions.?
Organize and conduct regular rehearsals, ensuring discipline and a positive learning environment in class and on stage.?
Maintain and take care of all music instruments and sound equipment; report repair/maintenance needs on time.?
Assess student performance through classwork, rehearsals and events; maintain records and share feedback with parents during PTMs.?
Collaborate with other teachers for integrated activities (dance, drama, Sanskrit/English/Hindi) in school programmes.?
Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and professional development as required by the school.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music / Performing Arts from a recognized institution (Hindustani Classical / Vocal / Instrumental).?
Formal training in Indian classical/semi-classical vocal and at least one melodic and one rhythmic instrument (e.g., harmonium/keyboard and tabla/dholak).?
2+ years of experience as a Music Teacher in a school setting (CBSE/ICSE/State) preferred.?
Ability to teach group singing (choir), solo performances, and basic instrumental ensembles.?
Basic proficiency in using audio systems, microphones, and simple recording tools; familiarity with digital tracks/karaoke is an added advantage.
Skills and Personal Qualities
Strong vocal skills with good pitch, rhythm, and stage presence.?
Competent in playing and demonstrating selected instruments to students.?
Good classroom management and ability to handle large groups during rehearsals.?
Creativity in planning performances and motivating shy or beginner students.?
Effective communication skills with students, parents, and staff; positive, child-friendly attitude.
