Job Summary

The Sand Moulding Manager oversees all activities in the sand moulding section of the foundry, ensuring efficient production of high-quality moulds that meet customer specifications and production schedules. This role is responsible for workforce management, process optimization, equipment upkeep, safety compliance, and continuous improvement in moulding operations.

Key Responsibilities1. Production Management

Plan, schedule, and supervise daily sand moulding operations. Ensure moulds are produced accurately, efficiently, and meet quality standards. Monitor production KPIs (output, scrap, downtime, cycle times). Coordinate with melting, core shop, pattern shop, and machining departments for smooth workflow.

2. Team Leadership

Supervise, train, and evaluate moulding operators and supervisors. Assign tasks based on skill levels and production priorities. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

3. Quality Control

Ensure mould hardness, moisture, permeability, and compaction meet required specifications. Work with QC teams to troubleshoot defects such as blowholes, scabbing, erosion, and misruns. Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce rework and scrap.

4. Process Improvement

Optimize moulding processes (green sand systems, no-bake, resin-bonded, or automated moulding lines). Recommend and implement improvements in sand mixing, reclamation, mould handling, and pattern utilization. Support lean manufacturing, 5S, and cost-reduction initiatives.

5. Equipment & Sand System Management

Oversee maintenance of moulding machines, sand mixers, conveyors, and reclamation systems. Ensure consistent sand properties by monitoring moisture, GFN, clay content, LOI, and compactability. Coordinate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime.

6. Health, Safety & Compliance

Enforce foundry safety practices, PPE usage, and environmental compliance. Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations. Ensure regulatory compliance with local environmental and occupational standards.

*Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of sand testing and moulding parameters. Understanding of casting defects and root-cause analysis. Familiarity with pattern making, core making, and melting operations. Ability to read engineering drawings and casting specifications.
