A Microbiology Technician performs lab tests to identify microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi) in patient samples or products, preparing samples, culturing microbes, operating equipment, and documenting results to help diagnose infections or ensure quality control in healthcare, research, or food industries, requiring precision and adherence to strict safety protocols. Key Responsibilities
Sample Handling
: Collect, label, process, and prepare biological samples (blood, urine, swabs, food, water) for analysis.
Testing & Analysis
: Perform tests (culturing, microscopy, biochemical/molecular) to isolate, identify, and characterize microorganisms.
Equipment & Media
: Prepare sterile media/reagents, operate and maintain lab instruments, and perform equipment calibration/QC.
Documentation
: Record, analyze, and report test results accurately, maintaining detailed lab records.
Safety & Compliance
: Follow strict sterilization, waste disposal, and infection control (BSL-2/3) protocols.
Collaboration
: Support microbiologists and healthcare staff with experiments and data interpretation.
