Job Purpose:
A Production Manager for an Induction Furnace in a Sponge Iron/Billet Steel Melting Shop (SMS) oversees daily operations, focusing on achieving production targets, ensuring quality (metallurgical standards, chemical composition), optimizing costs (power, materials, yield), managing manpower/safety, and coordinating with maintenance for smooth, efficient, and safe furnace and casting processes from raw material charging to molten metal transfer for billets.
Here are the core responsibilities:
1. Production & Operations
Planning & Scheduling:
Develop and execute daily/weekly production plans, ensuring target achievement.
Furnace Management:
Supervise induction furnace operations, including charge mix preparation, melting parameters, and tapping.
Process Control:
Monitor key parameters for stable operations, ensuring timely tapping and transfer to LRF/CCM (Ladle Refining Furnace/Continuous Casting Machine).
Manpower:
Lead shift teams, deploy staff, and conduct training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
2. Quality Assurance
Metallurgy:
Ensure molten metal meets required chemical composition and grade specifications.
Defect Analysis:
Analyze casting defects, process deviations, and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
Coordination:
Work with Quality Control, LRF, and CCM teams for seamless casting and quality checks.
3. Cost & Energy Optimization
Resource Monitoring:
Track consumption of power, raw materials, and refractories.
Yield Improvement:
Implement initiatives to reduce rejections, re-melts, and maximize yield.
Cost Reduction:
Identify and implement energy-saving and cost-optimization measures.
4. Maintenance & Equipment
Liaison:
Coordinate with Mechanical & Electrical teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance.
