Key Responsibilities1. Metallurgical Testing & Analysis

Conduct chemical analysis using spectrometer for MS & alloy steel grades. Perform mechanical testing: tensile, yield strength, elongation, hardness, impact test. Carry out metallographic examination: microstructure, grain size, inclusions, decarburisation. Analyse material failures and prepare investigation reports.

2. Process & Quality Control

Monitor metallurgical parameters during melting, casting, rolling or heat treatment. Ensure compliance with IS/ASTM/EN standards required for steel grades. Verify heat numbers, mill test certificates (MTC), and maintain proper traceability. Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement CAPA for defects.

3. Heat Treatment Operations

Supervise heat treatment processes like Annealing Quenching Tempering Normalizing Stress relieving Maintain furnace temperature control, cycle charts, and process accuracy.

4. Production Support

Coordinate with rolling, forging, fabrication, and machining teams to resolve material issues. Support in improving metallurgical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, and toughness. Suggest process improvements to reduce rejection and increase yield.

5. Documentation & Compliance

Prepare test reports, microstructure charts, and quality certificates. Maintain metallurgical lab documentation as per ISO & customer audit requirements. Ensure adherence to safety and quality policies within the steel plant.

6. Customer & Vendor Interaction

Handle customer complaints related to material properties. Provide technical support for new customer requirements and steel grade development. Coordinate with suppliers on raw material quality issues.

Qualifications & Skills Required

BE / B.Tech / Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering / Materials Science. 1-5 years of experience in steel industry (Fresher acceptable if basic knowledge is strong). Strong knowledge of steel grades (MS, carbon steel, alloy steel). Understanding of heat treatment, microstructure, mechanical properties. Hands-on experience with spectrometer, UTM, Brinell/Rockwell hardness tester. Ability to perform failure analysis and prepare technical reports. Good communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
